Dr Miguel Castellote Pérez
I obtained my degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Valencia in 1980. Three years later, in 1983, I completed my specialist training in ophthalmology, marking the start of my career in this fascinating field. I had the honour of working as an ophthalmologist at two hospitals in the region: Hospital Provincial de Castelló and La Plana, in Vila-real. These experiences have not only enriched my professional skills but also strengthened my passion for improving my patients' eye health. I am a member of several prestigious ophthalmological organisations, including the Sociedad Oftalmológica de la Comunidad Valenciana (SOCV), the American Academy Ophthalmology (AAO), the Sociedad Española de Glaucoma (SEG), the European-American Society Caratact and Reffractive Surgery (ESCRS ASCRS), and the Sociedad Española de Oftalmología (SEO). Membership of these societies allows me to keep up to date with the latest advances in ophthalmology and continuously improve the care I provide to my patients.
Dr María Redon Soriano
I was born in Castellón, where I now practise.
I studied medicine at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Valencia, graduating in the 2003–2009 cohort. I continued my training as an ophthalmologist through the MIR programme at Hospital General Universitario de Castellón (2010–2014). During my training, I undertook a placement at the Instituto de Microcirugía Ocular (IMO) in Barcelona, where I learnt retinal surgery from Dr Mateo, Dr Corcóstegui and Dr García Arumí, world leaders in the field of the retina. I also completed my cataract surgery training at the FOM, a referral centre in the Valencian Community.
After completing my residency, I joined the medical staff at Hospital General de Castellón, where I have developed my professional practice, subspecialising in the retina and vitreous and in complex cataracts. In 2016, I obtained the EBO (European Board of Ophthalmology) Diploma. Master's degree in Research from Miguel Hernández University (2012) and a university-specific Master's degree in Ophthalmology from Cardenal Herrera University (2019).
I actively take part in courses, congresses and scientific meetings in our speciality to keep continually up to date and offer our patients the latest developments. One of my main areas of interest is treating eyelid conditions, including upper blepharoplasty and other procedures.
Passionate about teaching, I was a resident tutor for 3 years at the hospital where I trained. I also help teach residents from other specialities and placement students from various universities.
In 2016, I joined the team at Dr Castellote's clinic, where I practise ophthalmology with the most human and personal approach. Under Dr Castellote's guidance, I have trained in refractive surgery using lens implants, as well as presbyopia surgery.
I am a member of the Sociedad Española de Oftalmología, the Sociedad Española de Retina y Vítreo, and the Sociedad Valenciana de Oftalmología.
Dr Ana Montoliu Antón
I began my medical training at the University of Valencia and specialised in ophthalmology at Hospital General Universitario de Castellón, where I received the award for the best training and scientific record on completing my residency. I broadened my training at leading international centres, including the Kellogg Eye Center (USA) and the Azienda Ospedaliera di Verona (Italy).
In 2017, I received a scholarship from the Sociedad Española de Retina y Vítreo, which allowed me to spend a year developing my subspeciality training in medical and surgical retina at Clínica Universidad de Navarra and Complejo Hospitalario de Navarra.
I currently specialise in treating retinal conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, high myopia and age-related macular degeneration (AMD), as well as cataract, presbyopia and retinal surgery.
As well as working at Hospital General Universitario de Castellón, I am part of Dr Castellote's team, where I combine the most advanced technology with personalised attention focused on offering every patient the best eye care.
Dr Maria Almela Gurrea
I turned my passion for medicine into a career in ophthalmology, shaped at the University of Valencia and refined in Madrid. My training at Hospital Universitario de Móstoles and Hospital Clínico San Carlos, among others, allowed me to specialise in the retina. Today, I apply my knowledge at Hospital General de Castellón. With a Master's degree in Clinical Ophthalmology from CEU-Cardenal Herrera University, I have also contributed to various scientific studies and take part in the validation of the UVEDAI index. My return to Castellón brought me to Dr Castellote's team, where I continue to develop in refractive ophthalmology and provide personalised care to my patients.
Dr Ana LLorca Cardeñosa
Beginning my training at the University of Valencia, I obtained my degree in Medicine and Surgery (2002–2008) and, after specialising in Ophthalmology, strengthened my vocation with awards such as first prize in the “Enrique Simón” award on completing my residency at Hospital General de Castellón in 2013. My commitment to excellence was reflected in obtaining the European Diploma in Ophthalmology (2013) and completing my doctorate with the distinction “APTO CUM LAUDE”. I subsequently subspecialised in paediatric ophthalmology by completing a Master's degree at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona (2013–2015).
I have developed my career at prestigious centres, practising as a paediatric ophthalmologist. My experience ranges from the Institut Català de la Retina and Hospital Sant Joan de Déu to medical staff posts at hospitals in Valencia and Castellón. Today, I apply my extensive experience in paediatric ophthalmology and adult squint at Clínica Castellote, offering personalised diagnoses and treatments supported by the most advanced technology.
